Fiumicino is a pleasant, clean and environmentally conscious city.
For the third consecutive year the Municipality of Fiumicino received the award of "Comune riciclone" during the Ecoforum Lazio organized by Legambiente not only for the percentage of recycling (we are almost 80%) but also for the quality and quantity of the organic (Third among municipalities with more than 50 thousand inhabitants).
But not only that, it is a green municipality, with clean air (see data ARPA Lazio), sustainable, environmentally friendly and with many green areas.
Starting from 1 March 2012 in the entire municipality, the urban hygiene service was entrusted to an external consortium that won the public contract announced by the municipality.
This is the PaP (Porta a Porta) waste collection service, i.e. a service for which users put tubs out of their homes according to an annual and territorial calendar.
This means that in Fiumicino there are no bins on the street, there is no scattered waste and the city has decorum and cleanliness.
Citizens receive 5 tubs of different colors, each for a type of fraction:
They also receive a small manual with the weekly calendar of the harvest that explains what to place outside and on what day.
The collection starts around 20:00 and continues until late at night, allowing you to carry out daytime activities and not hinder daily traffic.
One of the most positive things then, in addition of course to the quantity and quality of the differentiated waste produced, is that the cost of the TARI in the municipality of Fiumicino has remained unchanged in the last 7 years while it has increased in some adjacent municipalities (without differentiating).
There is also a dedicated portal and an app, Fiumicino Differenti -, where you can receive all the information, download calendars and manuals and stay in touch with the consortium.
It is also possible, through the reporter of the app, report in a geolocalized way any situations of degradation or illegal landfills.
And that's not all.
Twice a month in all the main towns of the municipality there are itinerant ecological stations where you can give bulky waste, mowing, pruning, used oils, etc ... that is, everything that is not thrown through PaP.
Here the calendar 2021 For example,.
If you are unable to give a bulky in one of these ecological stations, the bulky home collection service helps us: just call a toll-free number, book a collection and leave the waste outside the door on the day of collection.
It is a completely free service even if it can be improved: waiting times vary from 3 to 4 weeks. And there are still too many.
Throughout the municipal area then, especially in the most frequented places and green areas, hundreds of small waste bins are being installed.
For small problems of decorum or maintenance, the "Pronto decoro" service was then established: by calling a telephone number or sending an email you can report the problem, it will then be the responsibility of the dedicated team to solve it or to intervene the standard collection service.
Every week in different locations of the municipality there is street sweeping and cleaning.
It is carried out both by a small vehicle that washes and cleans the streets, and by ecological operators involved in sweeping and cleaning the streets.
It is a service much appreciated by citizens as it allows to maintain, as far as possible, the streets always clean and decent.
Even with a good organization and with the majority of civil and attentive citizenship, unfortunately it happens that illegal landfills appear.
To counter these phenomena of incivility, the municipality for some years (also on the recommendation of citizens) has installed several camera traps in the places most affected by these uncivilized acts.
For now there are 12 camera traps connected to a software for recognizing car license plates.
This allows you to recognize the uncivilized and fine them, and with the proceeds repay the service.
The municipality of Fiumicino is crossed by two rivers, the Tiber to the south and the Arrone to the north.
Its relationship with water has therefore always been intense and important.
And like any important relationship, it must be cared for and protected.
Since 2020 at the mouth of the Tiber, at Capo Due Rami, waste barriers have been installed in collaboration with the Lazio Region: The system, consisting of two polyethylene barriers (length 4 and 6 meters) anchored to the seabed and on the river bed intercepts the so-called "litter" (in jargon, floating waste, ed), letting it flow first into a selection barrier and finally into a collection area, A hundred meters downstream on the river bank. To empty it periodically is the staff of the boat SeaHunter, 1st Baron SeaHunter.
The waste, then transported to the Loas Italia plant in Aprilia (Latina), is weighed and selected manually, to separate the plastic parts destined for the Corepla plant (National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging) in Viterbo, for subsequent treatments and the disposal of the non-recoverable fraction.
In one year, about 1,700 kg of waste were intercepted and collected and ended up on our beaches.
Un bel risultato! 🙂
